Read This: I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti

giulia-melucci.jpgA little over a year ago, I did a feature for GalleyCat about two memoirs-with-recipes, including Giulia Melucci‘s I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti. The paperback’s just come out, “with a new chapter on Giulia’s stickiest relationship yet,” according to the cover—this turns out, though, to not be about another one of her boyfriends. I won’t spoil the surprise, so let’s just say it’s about a classic Italian dish.

Actually, I can’t resist giving just a tiny taste; one of my favorite aspects of Melucci’s memoir is their little twists—one of the best zingers from the original edition was in her notes for “unflavored pancakes” where she observed, “I would add 1 teaspoon of vanilla or a little orange zest, and you should, too, but not if you’re dating Mitch Smith”—although this new one is a bit tamer: “This sauce, like a good relationship, deepens and becomes more pleasingly complex with time.”

Now what would be even cooler is if the book gets reissued next year with an even newer chapter…
