The paperback&#8217;s just come out, &#8220;with a new chapter on Giulia&#8217;s stickiest relationship yet,&#8221; according to the cover&#8212;this turns out, though, to not be about another one of her boyfriends. I won&#8217;t spoil the surprise, so let&#8217;s just say it&#8217;s about a classic Italian dish.<\/p>\n<p>Actually, I can&#8217;t resist giving just a tiny taste; one of my favorite aspects of Melucci&#8217;s memoir is their little twists&#8212;one of the best zingers from the original edition was in her notes for &#8220;unflavored pancakes&#8221; where she observed, &#8220;I would add 1 teaspoon of vanilla or a little orange zest, and you should, too, but not if you&#8217;re dating Mitch Smith&#8221;&#8212;although this new one is a bit tamer: &#8220;This sauce, like a good relationship, deepens and becomes more pleasingly complex with time.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Now what would be even cooler is if the book gets reissued <i>next<\/i> year with an even <i>newer<\/i> chapter&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A little over a year ago, I did a feature for GalleyCat about two memoirs-with-recipes, including Giulia Melucci&#8216;s I Loved, I Lost, I Made Spaghetti.
