{"id":303,"date":"2009-08-15T21:32:35","date_gmt":"2009-08-16T01:32:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beatrice.com\/wordpress\/2009\/08\/15\/saturday-tabloid-covers\/"},"modified":"2009-08-15T21:35:18","modified_gmt":"2009-08-16T01:35:18","slug":"saturday-tabloid-covers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/beatrice.com\/wordpress\/2009\/08\/15\/saturday-tabloid-covers\/","title":{"rendered":"A Brief Lesson in Tabloid Philosophy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image302\" src=\"http:\/\/beatrice.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/augusto-tabloids.jpg\" alt=\"augusto-tabloids.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t usually go &#8220;off-message&#8221; and talk about anything other than books and writers on this blog, but I went to the little grocery store on the corner earlier today, and I happened to look at the newspapers by the door, which is how I noticed the contrasting approaches New York City&#8217;s two daily tabloids, the <i>Post<\/i> and the <i>Daily News<\/i>, had taken to the story of Charles Augusto, Jr., a Manhattan business owner who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/08\/14\/nyregion\/14shoot.html\">shot four men who tried to rob his store<\/a> earlier this week, killing two of them.<\/p>\n<p>I really don&#8217;t have much to say about the story; I don&#8217;t much feel it&#8217;s my place to comment.
