It rained.<br \/>\nAll readings canceled.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, torrents gave way<br \/>\nTo June light, shadow slant<br \/>\nWide angles of cable, long stripes<br \/>\nFalling across beaten planks.<br \/>\nIn the absence of poems,<br \/>\nGorgeous geometry,<br \/>\nEngineering, poetry, and the wonder<br \/>\nOf holding things aloft.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/joangelfand.com\/about-joan-gelfand\/\" target=\"_blank\">Joan Gelfand<\/a> will be reading at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nypl.org\/locations\/tid\/39\/node\/118483?lref=39%2Fcalendar\" target=\"_blank\">the Jefferson Market Library<\/a> tonight at 5:30 p.m. with local poets Jane Ormerod, Toni Quest, and Karen Hildebrand in an event sponsored by the Women\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s National Book Association (of which Gelfand is the former president).
