{"id":1276,"date":"2011-04-25T01:26:23","date_gmt":"2011-04-25T05:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/beatrice.com\/wordpress\/2011\/04\/25\/cara-hoffman-chloe-angyal-greenlight\/"},"modified":"2011-06-12T00:51:18","modified_gmt":"2011-06-12T04:51:18","slug":"cara-hoffman-chloe-angyal-greenlight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/beatrice.com\/wordpress\/2011\/04\/25\/cara-hoffman-chloe-angyal-greenlight\/","title":{"rendered":"April 27: Cara Hoffman &#038; Chloe Angyal at Greenlight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"image1275\" src=\"http:\/\/beatrice.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/so-much-pretty.jpg\" alt=\"so-much-pretty.jpg\" align=\"right\" \/>I&#8217;m about halfway into <a href=\"http:\/\/www.powells.com\/partner\/29017\/biblio\/1451616759\" target=\"_blank\"><i>So Much Pretty<\/i><\/a>, the debut novel by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.carahoffman.com\" target=\"_blank\">Cara Hoffman<\/a>, now and I&#8217;m really looking forward to meeting her on Wednesday, April 27, when <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/event.php?eid=186984818012722\">she comes to Greenlight Bookstore<\/a> for the Author\/Blogger series&#8212;she&#8217;ll be joined by Chloe Angyal, the interview editor for <a href=\"http:\/\/feministing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Feministing<\/a>, a website that&#8217;s described as &#8220;the world&#8217;s most-read feminist publication.&#8221; <i>So Much Pretty<\/i> is a literary thriller that raises unsettling questions about violence against women, teen violence, and community complacency; as I&#8217;ve been reading it, one of the things I&#8217;ve been reminded of is the outrage last month over <i>New York Times<\/i> coverage of a Texas case of group sexual assault on a minor&#8212;the first article the <i>Times<\/i> filed about the case basically shaped the narrative from the perspective of residents&#8217; &#8220;how are our town&#8217;s young men going to live with this hanging over them, and, really, that 11-year-old girl was running around unsupervised, practically dressed like an adult&#8221; attitude. (It&#8217;s a case <a href=\"http:\/\/feministing.com\/2011\/03\/09\/why-did-we-even-get-out-of-bed-this-morning\/\" target=\"_blank\">Angyal has written about<\/a>, and though the <i>Times<\/i> did redeem itself slightly by putting another reporter on a follow-up story, it&#8217;s truly appalling that things had to come to that.)<\/p>\n<p>Greenlight Bookstore is located at 686 Fulton Street in Brooklyn&#8217;s Fort Greene nieghborhood, right next to the C train, one block away from the G train, and a five-minute walk from all the trains that stop at Atlantic and Pacific Avenues. Cara Hoffman will read from <i>So Much Pretty<\/i> shortly after 7:30 p.m., after which Chloe Angyal will engage her in a conversation that&#8217;s sure to be thought-provoking, and we&#8217;ll also leave plenty of time for your questions.
