"The Poem," Franz Wright

by Ron Hogan
It was like getting a love letter from a tree

Eyes closed forever to find you--

There is a life which
if I could have it
I would have chosen for myself from the beginning.

From Walking to Martha's Vineyard. I featured this collection last year, sure, but Wright is the Significant Other's favorite contemporary poet, and it won a Pulitzer, so I'm featuring it again now that it's in paperback.
