I Wish I Could Write Short Stories That Uninteresting

by Ron Hogan

MoorishGirl passes along some information from Dan Wickett of the Emerging Writers Forum, a new development in the controversy surrounding last year's short fiction contest at Zoo Press. Long story short, as it were: Zoo's Neil Azevedo said none of the entries were "interesting enough" to merit sending them on to the contest's judge, so he cancelled the award but kept all the entry fees.

Well, apparently not everybody shares Azevedo's opinion, because one entrant in the competition, Scott Kaukonen, went on to win the Ohio State University fiction prize for Ordination; the collection comes out in May. Another Zoo reject, Edward Falco, will see his entry, Sabbath Night in the Church of the Piranha, released from Unbridled Books right around the same time.
