Welcome, Citizens of Denver!

by Ron Hogan

Anyway, I'm hoping some of the readers who caught David Milofsky's Book Beat in the Sunday Denver Post might have found my quip amusing enough to type "beatrice" into their web browsers. I actually don't figure that prominently in this overview of the litblog phenomenon, which "recall[s] the golden age of literary magazines in the '60s" but, he's right to point out, doesn't really have any proven influence on the publishing industry as of yet. (Perhaps we will in years to come, but even if we were influencing publishing decisions made right now, the books affected by those decisions in all likelihood wouldn't be showing up until 2006...)

And Milofsky's right: Maud has indeed created the "lively and colorful site [that] sets the standard."
