It Was Anthony Powell's Birthday Yesterday
by Ron Hogan...and, yes, maybe I should have blogged about that yesterday. I could even have done it now and fudged the timestamp, but I figured you'd catch me on that if I tried. But that would be cheating, as is, I suppose, passing along the Writer's Almanac's quote from Powell: "As far as I can see, writing is a combination of intangible creative fantasy and appallingly hard work."
I'm taking advantage of my newly freed-up time to finally start in on Anthony Powell: A Life, the biography by Michael Barber which fellow blogger Terry Teachout reviewed last month. When that's done, I won't quite be ready for A Dance to the Music of Time yet, but I do plan to start small, with Venusberg, a comparatively tiny book from Green Integer.
