All Day Permanent Red, Indeed!

by Ron Hogan

I don't actually listen to The Writer's Almanac that often, since I've hardly ever got the radio on, but I've recently started subscribing to the daily emails, so that's how I know today is the birthday of poet Christopher Logue, whose recreations of Homer fascinate me, and about whom I have now learned:

While nearly starving, he published Wand and Quadrant (1953) with money he raised in cafes. He became a Marxist the following year and dressed entirely in black.

Boy, do I love Garrison Keillor's dry wit sometimes.
