"Ain't Nothing But a Hooker Party"
by Ron HoganLest you get the wrong idea, that's actually a line from Rent Girl, the new graphic novel written by Michelle Tea to "explore in depth her ambivalence to the sex industry, which she found to be an exciting outlaw occupation one minute and a traumatic existential nightmare the next." Every page has a stunning two-color illustration by Laurenn McCubbin, and you'll probably like it if you're a fan of those "comic book" things the Times just discovered. (Mind you, one of their selections is a comic strip reprint, and the other's a nonfiction book about comic books, but I expect by the fiftieth time they rerealize comics aren't just for kids anymore, they'll get it right.)
Anyway, Michelle and Laurenn will be at the Lucky 13 Saloon in Park Slope tonight, celebrating the book's release with Cheryl B. and Rachel Kramer Bussel.
I'd love to be there tonight, but I've had plans for weeks to see Madeleine Peyroux perform at Barbes, also in Park Slope.
