Let's Not Get Carried Away With Ourselves
by Ron HoganThe publication of [The Da Vinci Code] in the US, where it has dominated the bestseller lists, provoked the kind of outrage last seen at the release of the Martin Scorsese's 1988 film The Last Temptation of Christ.
So says Kirsty Scott in the Guardian, at any rate. Which is just plain ridiculous. Sure, DVC has certain religious types upset, but hardly at the levels of vituperation that Last Temptation aroused. Even her later assertion that the book's "caused panic" among American clergy strikes me as a bit over the top. But perhaps the most astounding thing about the article is Scott's seeming pretense that Guardian readers might not have heard about the book yet. Or maybe just that they've forgotten it in the year since the paper ran its review.
