Richard Nash and I are drinking buddies, so I can hardly claim journalistic detachment in passing along the link to this Identity Theory profile, but read it anyway. Soft Skull has undergone some wild shifts during his tenure--it's still pretty 'punk rock,' but a steady stream of new fiction and nonfiction has shown that you can maintain a level of excellence that will impress the mainstream even as you thumb your nose at its values. Or something like that. I'm never any good at writing these types of observations down, but buttonhole me in person and I can make the case.
