"Terry's Babies" Make National News
by Ron HoganLola Ogunnaike makes the front page of the Memorial Day NYT with a look at the new wave of African-American chick-lit authors "six years after Helen Fielding's Bridget Jones's Diary established the genre." The first paragraph also evokes Sex in the City, but it's not until halfway in that we hear about Waiting to Exhale, and then primarily as a touchstone to simultaneously acknowledge and distance oneself from.
And we have an addition to the "great attempts to break through the impersonal Times style" list: "(Full disclosure: this reporter and Ms. [Tia] Williams have been having versions of this conversation since they attended college together.)" Since she's known Ms. Williams that long, maybe she can explain how the protagonist of The Accidental Diva came to be named Billie Burke... anyway, if you're looking for a starter list, this article's a good source.
