My Literary Taste (or Lack Thereof) Revealed to All

by Ron Hogan

"Professor Barnhardt" asked me what my ten favorite novels were, so I thought about it and sent some titles in. (Actually, that's page two, and since you might care what folks like Roger Ebert and Steve Almond picked, be sure to read page one afterwards.) The novels I picked are ones that have stuck with me long after I finished them--about twenty years in three cases; I figure any book with scenes I remember vividly after nearly two decades qualifies for having left its mark on me.

GOD bless you for Less Than Zero. I absolutely loved that book!

Actually, Less Than Zero was one of Marty Beckerman's favorites, not Ron's. You have to scroll down a bit to see Ron's favorites, and it's a list well worth reading, if I may say so.

oops! apologies.

I've never actually read Less Than Zero, figuring that catching the movie on cable was sufficient. And, as previously noted, I've read American Psycho three times, which also excuses me from ever having to read The Rules of Attraction, too.

Editor: You are correct, sir. I read Less Than Zero years ago, only because my mind had disintegrated to the point where even basic multiplication was out of the question. I don't know if it could be read under any other condition.
