Wallpapering My Master's House With Subpoenas

by Ron Hogan

So far, Cindy Adams is the only one in the media suggesting that Michael Viner's actually going to sue a bunch of newspapers for infringing the Burning Down My Master's House copyright by publishing excerpts before the official publication date. She claims he's going to file papers against the New York Daily News and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, which she further alleges will be sued for breach of contract for violating the press embargo, since the book reviewer signed an NDA. And the Times may also be on the receiving end of his litigious wrath. Amazing, if true: one would think Michael Viner's the last guy who should go around suing people for breach of contract, and then of course it's always fun to see a bankruptcy claimant find time and money to launch diddlyass lawsuits he has no hope of winning.

On the other hand, somebody should definitely explain to Cindy that when writing about African-Americans, it's not a good idea to use the phrase, "Lordy, Lordy," even if they are caught up in surprising turns of events... Meanwhile, Marisa Torrieri jumps on the Blair bandwagon, telling Mediabistro readers how she maybe sorta kinda could've stopped him in his tracks back in college, except she, you know, didn't.

Comments

Hmm. I don't know if the lawsuits are for real, but Viner is probably hoping to create enough hoopla to have something like that Bill O'Reilly/Al Franken thing. Doubtful it'll work.
